Welcome to the Writer’s Clinic

COMING SOON!
A writer's clinic is the place to go when you need help. You might be in the early stages of a project and need help clarifying how to map out the process involved. Or you might need help with final edits on a project you're just finishing up. And the myriad of choices and decisions that fall somewhere in between.

Writers often find their progress blocked by issues related to process: how to manage time, break down tasks, be accountable for deadlines. Other times progress is stalled by a lack of direction that leaves a project (and the writer) unfocused and frustrated.
Some questions to ask yourself:
-
Are you lost in the totality of a project and unsure how to get started (let alone sustain momentum)?
-
Are you trying to edit while you're still writing?

-
Are you trying to force yourself to be creative when you're actually feeling uninspired?

Before training as a life coach, Marilyn was a writer, editor and mentor with years of experience helping others organize their words, projects and plans. She is the author of several books and articles from her years as journalist, freelance writer and editor, along with her service as a researcher and college professor. Marilyn holds numerous awards, iincluding being part of the Pulitzer Prize awarded the Los Angeles Times for its coverage of the 1992 LA riots. She is most proud of her multiple awards for mentoring others: either as a professional magazine and newspaper editor, or as an educator supervising student writing and advising student-run media.

Marilyn found herself in a Central American rainforest ghost-writing a book about an American who served as an apprentice to a famed Mayan healer. Or devoting a few years to writing a book on gangster films and their ties to public fears about law and order. This book, often used as a text in university classes also led to her inclusion in a TV serious about true crime and its reflection in popular culture. Her book was lauded for its exploration of the the tensions in American society about the thin blue line between crimefighter and criminal.

It was in writing about culture, social tensions, and troubled relationships that fueled Marilyn's journey toward coaching. Whether reviewing a book about dating woes or interviewing women about life after divorce, Marilyn discovered her passion for pairing people with their professed purpose. Helping others learn to express themselves, celebrate their creativity, and focus on crafting their contributions to their own enrichment and that of the greater society.

Over the past few decades, she has helped struggling writers get started and experienced writers start anew.

Join her for a one-on-one session or sign-up for one of her workshops or mini-courses (coming soon).
She respects all skill levels and stages of development and will meet you where you are in your journey.
