Hello
Hi, I'm Dr. Marilyn Yaquinto (Yah-kwin-toh). Yes, a tough name to pronounce. So, let's go with Coach Marilyn!

A former college professor and now certified life coach, I've spent a lifetime moving on. For jobs, schooling, relationships, and sometimes just because! And moving on didn't always mean going forward.

Meet Coach Marilyn
To find out more about my meandering path and zigzagging narrative, read the series of blogs on this site. You may recognize one of my crossroads as your own. Whether you're just starting out (like my former students), changing course mid-stream (like my own 30-something and 40-something career changes), or looking forward to rediscovery as a recent retiree (tried that too!), Thus, as someone who came to this profession later in life, I combine training with experience to help you map your path forward, with confidence and momentum.
Prior to becoming an educator and mentor, Marilyn was an editor, freelance writer and an award-winning journalist (sharing in the Los Angeles Times' Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the 1992 LA riots). She has authored (and co-edited) books and articles on topics from personal growth and cultural exploration to studies related to film history and social justice. Marilyn attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor for her BA in Communication and Political Science and MA in Journalism. She later returned to her alma mater as an adjunct professor to teach writing and media classes. Marilyn earned a PhD in American Culture Studies from Bowling Green State University. She remains Professor Emerita of Communication and Interdisciplinary Studies at Truman State University in Missouri.
